The 5th Annual Paradise Grazing Festival brought the community together on June 6 at Terry Ashe Recreation Center to celebrate targeted grazing as a working tool for wildfire prevention in Butte County. Targeted grazing reduces hazardous fuels like grasses and brush before fire season, lowering the intensity of a wildfire if one starts. Events like this one connect that land management work to the neighbors who live alongside it. At PID, the cat is out of the bag--literally! While he was first "hidden" by the crew when he was discovered as a kitten underneath a PID truck, Romac has been fully accepted by PID management and now does his part for the district, hunting down mice which were plaguing the Corporation Yard facility. Crew members donated the funds for veterinary care for Romac. The fund has grown larger with a donation by the cat's namesake, the Romac Corporation—manufacturer of equipment used by PID. You can meet Romac in this video as well as the PID team members who care about not just the customers they serve, but also a stray kitty who needed a home and a purpose.
